RESOURCE
All log stock used at Powelltown Sawmill is supplied by Vic Forests under the terms of an existing long term, Timber Sales Agreement 2015.
Vic Forest's operations are certified under the nationally endorsed Australian Forestry Standard ( AFS ) which has been developed for Australia's forests, and is internationally recognised by the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification ( PEFC ) -- the world's largest forest certification scheme.
Powelltown Sawmill also operates as a certified AFS and PEFC business, maintaining the chain of custody for our customers. Guaranteeing the timber we supply is harvested from sustainably managed forests.
MILLING
All milling by Powelltown Sawmill is done, initially, by using a Band Saw Breaking Down Head Rig and then by Saw benches, followed by a docking and racking process.
Any waste timber from the edges of the logs or internal defects, passes through a chipper and is forwarded on to be processed into paper by Australian Paper.
The resulting Slabbed or Dimension - cut timber is then air - dried, in our yard for up to 2 years before it is Kiln Dried and Reconditioned before final processing.These methods help to increase timber recoveries from this valuable resource.
MACHINING
A Kiln Drying and Moulding Processing plan has been developed at Powelltown Sawmill over the past 10 years using state of the art Multi Saws and Kilns so that the highest volume of available timber is produced.
The processing centre is based on a high volume concept and is being developed with future growth in mind.
Currently, Approx 50 cubic metres of air dried timber is processed each work day.
The final processing functions within the centre include Final Dressing, Moulding, Grading and Docking which produces Select and Standard Victorian Mountain Ash ready for sale as Furniture Timber or for Stairs or Windows.
We also produce Victorian Silvertop Ash for high quality Decking that is very hard wearing and long lasting.
PACKAGING
All our Packaging and Presentation at Powelltown Sawmill is of the highest quality.
Our processed Timber is wrapped all around for protection during transport.
