Welcome to POWELLTOWN SAWMILL

In 2006, Steven Bedggood and Harold Fox joined the 4 families running Powelltown Sawmill.Steven closed his family "BRITANNIA CREEK SAWMILL" and bought some of the equipment to the Powelltown site. His Sawmill was started in the early 1900's by CUMMING, SMITH and Co. Distillation Works.

Harold closed his "WARBURTON SAWMILL" and brought all the Kiln Drying and Moulding Equipment to the Powelltown site. The "Warburton Sawmill" had previously been operating since 1939, when Hans Tuckman re — located his bush mill into the Warburton township following the 1939 Bushfires.

After 9 years of managing the Powelltown Sawmill the 4 families decided to retire and hand over management to Harold and Carmel Fox in March 2013.The Sawmill currently employees 27 fulltime staff and 3 part time staff and is continuing with the original aim of employing people from the local area and helping to keep Powelltown a viable community.

Interestingly, the Bureau of Statistics, no longer recognises "Powelltown "as a "town "after over 100 years as centre of a vibrant, independent and supportive community! The sawmill has a secure log supply from Vic Forests until 2023.

Powelltown can look forward to a very secure future, processing some of Victoria's best Mountain Ash Timber into top value, fine furniture and building timber, as it has done for the past 100 years!
